Sidestepping

The president gave a briefing ahead of his press conference this morning, but the reporters didn’t seem to listen to it. At least twice, he was asked why he felt it necessary to “sidestep” or “bypass” the law when conducting electronic surveillance as reported by the NYT. He already explained that the NSA had the authority to do what it did, and that he had consulted with the Justice department and the Congress, so therefore there was no bypassing or sidestepping going on.

Of course, the real law that was broken was the divulgence of intelligence methods. But the NYT and the press corps seemed unconcerned about this serious matter that weakens our security.

The Democratic party has begun to realize that they won’t be successful in getting us to lose in Iraq (no one’s talking about last week’s successful election any more), so they have decided to concentrate their efforts at making us lose the war on terror at home.
